Valneris won with 43:27. · July 23rd – 29th. Winner of Nijmegen International tournament: 1st - Guntis Valneris (Latvia) 16 points out of 20. · 2nd – 10th of September. • February 17th – 18th. European Championship Blitz in Cannes (France). Final match Alexei Chizhov (Russia) – Guntis Valneris (Latvia) 3:1 (out of 2 games). Valneris gained silver medal. • July 14th – 21st. Winner of The Hague International tournament out of 128 players: 1st - Guntis Valneris (Latvia) 14 points out of 18. • July 22nd – 28th. Winner of Nijmegen International tournament out of 130 players: 1st - Guntis Valneris (Latvia) 16 points out of 20. • October 8th – 10th. Guntis Valneris (Latvia) becomes a World Champion Blitz (5 min +3 sec.) in Nazareth-Illit (Israel). 20 participants taking part in the Championship. Valneris wins his respective pool with +5 out of 9 games. In play-offs wins respectively Rastegaev (Russia), Getmanski (Russia), Heusdens (The Netherlands) and A. Schwarzman in the final with a score 3:1 (2:0 and 1:1). • November 4th – 8th. Guntis Valneris (Latvia) has a bronze medal with a club Van Stight Thans (The Netherlands) in European Confederation Cup for Club Teams in Aix-les Bains (France). The team is made up of Schwarzman, Gantvarg and Clerc. Losing in semifinal against “Lenskoje” (Yakutsk, Sakha) in the first barrage with 20 min +10 sec. with 3:5, The Dutch team takes a bronze after a victory over “Bashneftj-2” with 5:3.
